White Temple ( Wat Rong Khun) : Chiang Rai

This is a whimsical white temple located in Chiang Rai, Thailand which looks really different from the usual Buddhist temples around the country. This was designed by contemporary Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat.  A Buddhist artist who is trying to convey the idea of good and bad which can be seen from the sculptures and throughout the temple ground.

When I first saw the temple, I thought it looked like a fairy tale castle. With its long white bridge and interesting gold adorned museum and restroom areas.  Before entering the main building, there’s an intricately designed bridge which serves as a connection between “heaven” and “hell”. There’s also a pit full of outstretched hands and skulls pleading for help from their doom.

Another interesting structure there is the Golden Toilet. It’s the most elaborately designed toilet block I have ever seen.
